Why connect Telegram to Zendesk
Zendesk is the standard helpdesk for support teams in the US, UK, EU and Australia. Telegram can be added either as a Sunshine Conversations messaging channel or through the Support API with tickets, depending on your plan and whether agents work in the Agent Workspace. A Telegram bot or Mini App without the integration creates a second customer list that nobody maintains; with it, every Telegram interaction lands on the right record, managers get alerts where they already are, and customers get updates in the chat they actually read.
How the integration works
- Channel option. With Zendesk Suite and Messaging, we connect Telegram as a custom channel via Sunshine Conversations so agents reply from the Agent Workspace.
- Ticket option. On Support-only plans, the bot creates tickets through the API with the conversation and Mini App context; agent public replies are forwarded to Telegram by the middleware.
- Automation. Triggers notify customers in Telegram about status changes; macros include Telegram-friendly templates.
- AI deflection. Our AI assistant answers from your Help Center before a ticket is created and hands over with a summary.
Typical flows
- /support in the bot → ticket with order data → agent reply in Telegram
- Order status change in your system → proactive Telegram update via trigger
- CSAT request after solve, results stored on the ticket
- Help Center search inside a Mini App
Architecture
| Layer | What runs there |
|---|---|
| Telegram | Your bot (grammY or aiogram) and Mini App; users never leave Telegram |
| Middleware | A small service on your cloud (Node.js or Python): auth with Zendesk, upserts, dedupe, templates, rate limits, retries, audit log |
| Zendesk | Native objects and automations; no custom code inside Zendesk beyond fields and triggers |
| Monitoring | Failed syncs alert your team in a Telegram group; a daily reconciliation report catches drift |
We keep business logic in the middleware so that Zendesk upgrades, API version changes and bot changes do not break each other. The middleware ships with tests, an admin page for retries and documentation your developers can extend.
Data, consent and compliance
Telegram user IDs, usernames and phone numbers are personal data. The integration stores consent (captured in the bot or Mini App), supports unsubscribe commands, honors deletion requests by removing the Telegram identity from Zendesk records, and keeps data in your Zendesk region and your cloud region. For GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPEDA and the Australian Privacy Act we provide a data flow document for your DPO.
