Why connect Telegram to Close
Close is the CRM of choice for inside-sales and SDR teams in the US and Canada that live in calls, emails and sequences. Its API is simple and complete, and webhook subscriptions make outbound Telegram messaging on status change straightforward. Without the integration, Telegram becomes a separate silo; with it, every chat, order or request lands on the right record, your team gets alerts where they already are, and customers get updates in the chat they actually read.
How the integration works
- Auth. API key for an internal integration, scoped to a dedicated integration user.
- Inbound. Leads and contacts upserted from the bot, custom activities for conversations, opportunities created from Mini App forms.
- Outbound. Webhook subscriptions on lead status or opportunity changes trigger Telegram messages; reps get alerts for new leads.
- Sequences. Telegram touches can be logged as custom activities so sequence steps stay consistent.
Typical flows
- Mini App form → Lead with Telegram context → SDR alert
- Status “Qualified” → client message with booking link
- Opportunity won → onboarding sequence via bot
Architecture
| Layer | What runs there |
|---|---|
| Telegram | Your bot (grammY or aiogram) and Mini App |
| Middleware | A small service on your cloud: auth with Close, mapping, dedupe, templates, retries, audit log |
| Close | Native objects and automations; no custom code inside beyond fields and triggers |
| Monitoring | Failed syncs alert your team in Telegram; daily reconciliation report |
Data and compliance
Telegram IDs, usernames and phone numbers are personal data. We capture consent in the bot or Mini App, support unsubscribe and deletion, and keep data in your Close region and your cloud region. A data flow document is provided for your DPO where GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPEDA, the Australian Privacy Act or regional laws apply.
